On Trying:
"Try." A powerful word. When you are "trying," you aren't "doing."
Remove the word "try" from your vocabulary and just do it! Won't you "try" it...I mean "do" it?
On Performance Management:
Performance management advances the organization through human capital development thereby leveraging the organization's strategies.
Human capital development - as in employees! Organizations can use their performance management processes to enhance their employees' skills and abilities. Through this process, the organization's strategies are discussed and implemented through the employees' goals and objectives. For more on performance management, check out my eWorkbooks on Performance Management 1: The Cascade and Performance Management 2: The Details.
On Surprises:
Jen Edwards does beautiful wire tree sculptures. I just surprised Ron with a fabulous creation of our buckeye tree. It is the tree that we "sit in" when we're on our deck. Up in the branches, we rejoice in the budding, blooming, seeding, and leaf dropping. This sculpture will be a wonderful reminder of sitting in our "tree house" after we move.
On Delegation:
When you delegate do you juggle, meaning you dole out things on the fly, without really thinking about or planning how you'll structure and assign tasks in a way that will benefit you, the delegatee, and the task; offload, meaning you "slough off" your plate some tasks, and you want somebody to pick them up; or dump, meaning you indiscriminately transfer a whole bunch of work, and then walk away and wash your hands of it? Well, what do you do? Really think about it. For more on delegation, check out my eWorkbook on Delegation.
On Generations:
I went to Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Kentucky, an all girls school. My grandmother, Thelma Kampson Muehlenkamp, graduated in 1930. My mother, Mary Sue Muehlenkamp Gamel, graduated in 1952. My sisters, Diane and Jo Ann, and I graduated in 1983, 1981, and 1975. My niece, Anna - Danny's daughter, graduated in 2006. His other daughter, Ellen, is next. What a powerful commitment to Catholic education. 76 years noted so far...and more to come...
On Self Talk:
What is your self talk? If we think at least 50,000 thoughts a day, then how many of those thoughts lift you and others up? How will you change your thoughts today? Will you begin to notice and make one small change? If nothing else, just begin to notice how you talk to yourself.
On Money and Time:
Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. Would you waste a cent if you lost what you didn't use by the end of the day?
I think not, but that is exactly what most of us do each day...fritter away 86,400 seconds...without a second thought! Consider what you will do today to use the precious time that you have. For more on time management, check out my eWorkbook on Time Management.
On Snow:
Okay, here's the deal. Every time it snows, Ron is out of town. Why is that an issue? Because we have a snow blower sitting in our garage that works perfectly well. I have strategically not learned how to use the snow blower because I want Ron to "shovel" the driveway. Here's where it has backfired...he's never home!!! So, I go out and clear the driveway with a shovel. (I've attached a picture from a previous snow so you can see the size of the driveway.) Oh, and did I mention that recently I got up at 4:30 a.m. to shovel the driveway while he took a shower so that he could get to the airport by 5:15 a.m.? Something is seriously wrong with this picture. Ah, but it is good exercise:)
On My Convertible:
I owned a red Toyota Celica Convertible for 19 years. My brother bought it from me and is still driving it. His daughter informs me that she gets it when she turns 16...a few short years away. I asked her, "What will you call it?" On the spur of the moment, I suggest the STAR Car, S for Susan, T for Tommy (her dad), A for and, and R for Rachel. Yes, the STAR Car.
On the Coach:
Everyone should coach.
Yes, that means you. No matter where you are in an organization or in a family, you can coach. For more on coaching, check out my eWorkbooks on Coaching: A Beginning or Coaching: Now Do It.
On Love and the Sun:
I just read an article that reminded me that I am the essence of love...and like the sun, I don't have to make an effort to be love because I am love as the sun is heat and light. The sun doesn't have to make an effort to be heat and light, it is provided easily and effortlessly because it is heat and light. I like the idea that I am love. Now if I can remember to just allow love to radiate easily and effortlessly like the sun. What a powerful reminder since the sun is out there every day.
On Six Degrees of Separation:
We've decided to sell our home. Armed with postcards that show off our beautiful home, I've asked everyone I "networked" with to give these postcards out saying, "My kooky friend thinks she can sell her house in less than 6 degrees of separation. Please take a look at this postcard. If you're not interested, please don't throw it away, but pass it on to someone else." I'll let you know when we are "found" by the postcards. And, I'll do my best to track back to the original "passer."
On Feedback:
Don't jump to conclusions.
As human beings, we judge others and jump to conclusions...and, depending on the frame of mind, the jump is not always to the "good" side. Though judging comes natural, we all need to be aware of our judging mind and stop. Only when we stop, and consider our judgments that lead to conclusions, can we possibly consider other options...such as assuming the best. For more on feedback, check out my eWorkbook on Giving and Receiving Feedback.
On Kind Words:
Someone very dear to me wrote an email recently that said, "Did you watch Oprah today? I taped it and had chills the whole time while watching it. Oprah had people on that follow the law of attraction - Martha Beck - how to attract the love of your life, Louise Hay - How to Heal Yourself - and a life coach Cheryl Richardson. I don't know if I have told you all the great things that have happened to me ever since I have watched The Secret but I know that I am utterly grateful for you. There is so much more that I want and I know it is at the grasp of my finger tips. It still sometimes overwhelms me that I can have what I want but if I focus on one thing at a time - it's as easy as pie! Thanks again for directing me to this new way of thinking. I love life and I can't wait to move forward. I am blessed to have you in my life. Have a wonderful day!!!!!"
Warm words on a winter day! How can you help someone reach their true potential?
On Lost:
I got hooked on Lost (the TV show) from the very beginning. It intrigues me to see where they are going with this whole plot. I love when I see all the interconnectivity that goes on in the show. Finding out that they use elements from the Wizard of Oz and Star Wars is fascinating. At some level, I'm sure I don't "get" it at all!
On the Benefits of Coaching:
Coaching builds stronger teams, is a magnet for talent, and sustains a network of support.
These are just a few of the benefits of coaching. All managers or organizations should do everything necessary to promote coaching. For more on coaching, check out my eWorkbooks on Coaching: A Beginning or Coaching: Now Do It.
On Oprah:
Oprah is getting ready to launch a free class with author, Eckhart Tolle. The book that will be discussed is A New Earth. Toole also wrote The Power of Now. Consider reading the book and joining the class starting on Monday, March 6th. The class lasts for 10 weeks...and will surely get you thinking.
On the Amazon:
Ron and I took a cruise down the Amazon. One of the most amazing sights was seeing the waters from the Amazon and the Rio Negro merge. They call this the black and tan - like the drink, because the waters, where they join, mix together creating a black and tan swirl.
While the name Rio Negro means Black River, its waters aren't exactly black; they are similar in color to tea. This dark color comes from leaves and humus it collects from the tree lined banks. These suspended particles give the river its tea-like appearance. The name arises from the fact that it looks black from afar. I'm sure you can guess - the Amazon is the "tan." That's because it's so muddy!
Training-Modules.com Blog is Live!
Welcome to my NEW blog for Training-Modules.com. I am not a pro on blogging, but I doubt anyone truly is. Therefore, instead of waiting until I was truly proficient, I've decided that I'll just "jump" in and test the waters.
My ideas of what to do with my blog change over time...one minute I'm going to pick a theme of the week... no, the month...and the next time, I'll have a very different idea. That being said, I believe the opportunity for change is what blogging is about. So, starting today, my blogging adventure begins. Any feedback you have will always be welcome.
Thanks for reading my blog!
