July 2008 Newsletter
Good Morning,
Life is always changing. As most of you know, I rarely speak or facilitate any more. I was recently asked to give a Commencement Speech for the Art Institute of Ohio – Cincinnati. Who would have thought?!? I hope to have it on my website within the month. I'll let you know when it's available.
The Coaching AudioCasts are now available. The Coaching: An Introduction AudioCast is free with the purchase of any other Coaching AudioCast. There are four Coaching AudioCasts to choose from (The Coaching Process, The Coaching Elements, The Coaching Discussion, and More on Coaching). Can't decide? Save money and buy all five in a "bundle."
Not interested in just audio? Consider the Training Kits that include the AudioCasts and the eWorkbooks.
We've added a few more articles to our website.
I recently read that "According to the SHRM/ERC study, only 23 percent of HR professionals say that their organizations have a comprehensive ethics and compliance program in place, and 7 percent report that their employer has no program at all. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations (FSGO) define a comprehensive ethics and compliance program as one that includes six components:
- Written standards of ethical workplace conduct.
- Means for an employee to anonymously report violations of ethics standards.
- Orientation or training on ethical workplace conduct.
- A specific office, telephone line, e-mail address, or Website where employees can get advice about ethics-related issues.
- Evaluation of ethical conduct as part of regular performance appraisals.
- Discipline for employees who commit ethics violations
"Ethical misconduct most commonly identified by HR professionals included abusive or intimidating behavior toward fellow employees, plus abuse of e-mail or Internet privileges. Employees (U.S. average) cited instances of colleagues calling in 'sick' inappropriately, and people taking credit for someone else’s work."
After reading this, perhaps it's time that you consider facilitating some ethics training. For the month of August, our Business Ethics module will be available for $8,000. Too much for your small organization? Or you’re a consultant who wants to offer the training to clients, but a one-time charge isn't going to work? Then call me and we'll work something out. This is too important not to address in today’s litigation-happy business climate.
I've added a new "button" to my website - Susan's Picks. These are friends of mine who offer entirely different experiences than "training," but because I love what they do, I want to tell others about their services.
My first pick is Ruth Shilling, who leads awe-inspiring trips to Egypt. Ron and I experienced her unique tour several years ago. We plan to go back to Egypt with Ruth, since new items of interest continue to be "unearth" or "discovered." Ruth has some great tours coming up.
With regard to our Affiliate Marketing program, Mike Lair has decided to partner with us. Mike provides Learning that Works! via his company Lair Learning Alliance LLC. Mike partners with clients to address specific organization development and training needs through facilitation, workshops, and custom consulting. He has a very unique experiential approach to engaging clients in devising creative solutions that work for their business.
The blog is growing every day. Remember, the blog features content on Team Meetings for the months of June and July.
Connect with me through LinkedIn, Plaxo, Facebook, Namyz, etc. if you have even more time. Oh, and I was so busy recently that I didn't have time to connect with some of you. So, if our time to connect "expired," please make the effort again. Thanks.
My friend, Thiagi, is organizing the NASAGA conference (the North American Simulation and Gaming Association), which is being held October 15-18 in Indianapolis, IN. Go to www.nasaga.org. The theme this year is the Pit Stop for GAS (Games, Activities, and Simulations).
Hope you're enjoying the lazy days of summer,
